Richmond General Plan
CCI is a collaborative partner of the Richmond Regional Equitable Development Initiative (REDI) which is focusing now on an effort to infuse the current General Plan update of the city of Richmond, California, with equitable development principles. REDI is sponsored by the Ford and the San Francisco Foundations. The other partners include Urban Habitat, East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy, and Contra Costa County FaithWorks.
CCI is providing overall research assistance to REDI in its efforts to develop concrete policies in relation to the General Plan by researching land use, housing, and economic development issues.
Through a COPC grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, we:
- continue to provide general access to the resources of the University of California, including forging contacts between REDI and researchers in different departments whose work can benefit the collaborative;
- assist REDI collaborators in developing in-house planning skills, including the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology;
- develop materials that assist REDI in community education, outreach, organizing and lobbying efforts; and
- participate in the Richmond REDI Leadership Institute sessions for local activists, leaders and residents as needed.
